Come to Virginia's Eastern Shore for this day-long celebration of To Kill a Mockingbird and a consideration of the novel's depiction of Southern culture.
Meet Scout. Mary Badham was nominated for an Academy Award for her portrayal of Scout in the 1962 movie. At the time she was the youngest person ever nominated for an Oscar. Mary will discuss the making of the movie and will answer your questions. You can join her for lunch, too!
Watch the movie. To Kill a Mockingbird will be shown in Onancock's historic Roseland Theatre.
Learn about life on Virginia's Eastern Shore during the era of Jim Crow and the Great Depression. This free panel discussion will be led by a distinguished journalist. Panel members include experts in these topics along with individuals who lived through the era.
Attend readings of the book performed by local actors. Entertaining, enlightening, and FREE!
Join us for an authentic Southern lunch prepared by a local church and served on the grounds of historic Ker Place.
To Kill a Mockingbird and Southern Culture is sponsored by the Eastern Shore of Virginia Historical Society and the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities.
